Equipment & Facilities
Designed with sea trials and testing in mind
Our location and experienced staff are further augmented by the extensive equipment and facilities available to you at The Underwater Centre. As well as the equipment available for use on the extensive range of vessels we provide for trials, such as the Triton XL work class ROV system on our ROV support vessel, we also have a wide range of onshore test facilities.
Large surface area, and secure access
Our private pier provides direct access into the loch, with a large surface working area capable of taking artic lorries, a number of buildings for work and storage, and its own electricity supply. A pontoon provides ease of access to the sea loch, along with several dive stations providing shallow water access, to depths of 20m. This increases to around 50m depth within 0.25miles. The pier also houses two ROV control cabins with an A-frame Launch and Recovery System and Grove Crane Systems with Tether Management Systems.
Additional facilities and equipment available for use on the pier include drying rooms, two compartment decompression chamber, welding bays, a forklift, LP and HP diving compressors, mobile dive panel, Kirby Morgans, dry and hot water suits, umbilicals and hot water machine. See full details here.
Onshore Tank Complex
Controlled subsea testing environment
Our onshore, 1.5 million litre, seawater dive tank provides a more controlled subsea testing environment. Situated at the head of our pier, the tank is 30m long, 20m wide and with an average depth of 4m. It also benefits from large acrylic viewing panels on three sides, allowing you to observe your trial taking place.
Access to the tank can be from the walkway above from a central dive panel, or from a shallow pool at the rear of the tank. The equipment available for use in the dive tank complex includes a mobile dive panel, umbilicals, HP storage cylinders, an LP compressor and ROVs.
Within the tank complex there is also extensive workshop and storage space, and a number of classrooms. See more on our onshore tank complex here.
Accommodation and Restaurant
Located on site
Our main building, also situated at the head of the pier, houses some of our offices, accommodation and our restaurant. Each office is equipped with a projector, flip chart, television and DVD player. WIFI access is available throughout the lodge.
En-suite accommodation is available on a full-board basis, including a cooked breakfast, packed lunch and a choice from a selection of evening meals. If you are staying offsite, our restaurant team will be able to provide lunch and meals as you require. Read more about our accommodation and restaurant facilities here.
